Chinese Calligraphy – An Ancient Art Form
Chinese calligraphy is the artistic way of writing Chinese, and it is the same for all the languages spoken in China. It is a highly esteemed art form and the standard to which critics hold Chinese paintings. Earlier, written Chinese was a simplified version of pictures and forms that evolved to the way it is in today. Each character can fit into an evenly spaced imaginary square and to provide balance to the text. Calligraphy requires a steady hand, soft brush strokes, and the creativity to create beautiful masterpieces.
Nature is the inspiration behind all art forms in China, including calligraphy. Each line represents a tree, person, or any other living thing. Until the 20th century, every student in China had to learn the regular Chinese calligraphy script. It was used for record-keeping and transcription by the government as well.
