How To Teach Kids Coding
Teaching coding to kids may seem a difficult task and not all kids show an immediate interest or aptitude for programming. However, with a little push in the right direction, children can becoming passionate about coding from a young age and this could potentially set them up for a rewarding career.
The best way to explain coding to a child is to relate it to something they are already familiar with – that is, make it relatable to their world. Sometimes it can be through a game they are familiar with, whether in the real world or on the computer, or by relating it to something familiar (like the chapters in a book) that makes coding easier to understand. Making it simple to understand is important as well as making it entertaining or fun. You can use simple concepts such as Youtube’s playlist function, for example, to explain loops and extend it to classes, variables and control flow with a little imagination.
