Can CBD Be Used To Relieve Pain?
CBD (cannabidiol) is a substance produced from one of more than one hundred compounds (cannabinoids) that can be found in the cannabis plant. Cannabinoids do not produce the psychoactive effects that are associated with consuming cannabis. Instead, they target the endocannabinoid system that is present in the human body. This system helps to regulate functions such as sleep, the immune system, and pain, among others.
Some evidence has been found that CBD can have benefits for patients suffering from chronic pain. CBD for pain relief has not yet been approved by regulatory bodies such as the US Food and Drug Administration but some research has shown that it provides therapeutic effects in relieving pain, helping with sleep, and reducing inflammation. More evidence is needed to prove its effects but users report that it provides benefits for arthritic pain, for those suffering from multiple sclerosis, and in treating chronic pain.
