Refunding An American Airlines Ticket
Getting an American Airlines refund largely depends on the type of ticket you purchased. Discount plane tickets, typically bought ahead of time are not usually refundable, although a business or first class ticket usually lets you cancel and get a refund. It can become confusing determining whether your ticket allows a refund if you paid for it at a travel agency or it includes transportation on another airline. In some cases, a non refundable ticket will allow you a refund if you weren’t able to travel due to a family death or medical emergency. And even a non refundable AA plane ticket can usually be used as a future credit and in that case is typically valid for a year. American has a customer service department and it’s always worth asking for an exception to be made, especially if you’re a frequent flyer.
